By using the 1/2" screen on top the more numerous shark and ray teeth in the 1/4"-1/2" size class ended up in the matrix instead of being pulled out in my top sifting screen. If my friend was with me while I collected this I'd have probably switched positioning of the 1/2" & 1/4" sifters and let him pick the >1/4" fossils from the top screen.

I'd suspect that most people hunting fossils in Florida will not get the opportunity to dig a site with the fossils still in their original orientation and most end up extracting their prizes by sifting or surface collecting along the shores or in rivers and creeks (or the occasional quarry trip with a fossil club).

Anyone use 1/8" mesh in a sifter?

All the rest of our sifters use 1/4 mesh (for sifting in creeks). Does anyone used one with 1/8 mesh for catching tiny stuff? How does it work?

This weekend we were in a river sifting for shark teeth, so we were using a sifter with 1/4 mesh screen. (You can find this at lowes, home depot in the fencing section.) You get a shovel full of gravel from the creek/river/exposure, and you dump it in the sifter.

Any tips on sifting without hurting your back?

Is big brook a dry land sifting situation or a floating sifter? @dries85 has a thread on TFF and his sifter is featured often. Perfect dry land application to avoid the "hold it out while looking down" situation.
